As I've gotten older, I've had all kinds of ups and downs with respect to the severity of my anxiety. I've experienced everything from everyday anxious feelings to landing myself in a hospital bed thanks to a severe panic attack. Unfortunately, I've had the latter occur multiples times in my life, with the most recent happening earlier this year while I was driving around town for work. Talk about scary! The bad times are really discouraging to me and make me feel like a slave to my anxiety/emotions.
One of the things that really helps me get through those tough times is my faith. I feel very blessed to be able to seek refuge in scripture and prayer. It doesn't make everything better but I know wholeheartedly that God sees me through. Regardless of whether you do or don't struggle with anxiety like I do, I wanted to share some of my favorite uplifting Bible verses for when I am feeling unsettled. I hope you enjoy!
1 Peter 5:6-7. "Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you."
Proverbs 12:25. "Anxiety in a man's heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad."
Matthew 7:25-31. "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they never toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'"
Philippians 4:6. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God."
Romans 15:13. "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope."
Colossians 3:15. "And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful."
Do you have a favorite bible verse or quote that comforts you during difficult times?
Oh, I love Phillipines 4:6! It is so comforting and anxious times.

Loving these. Those verses in Matthew are such a heavenly reminder of what's really important and who provides!
ReplyDeleteI've had anxiety my whole life too! I remember all through junior high and high school I didn't understand that there were people who didn't walk around with that sinking feeling in their stomach. I am better at combatting anxiety now but I still fall into that feeling of impending doom more often than I would like. Thank you for sharing your source of inspiration for combatting anxiety <3
